Foreigner who intends to visit Nepal must hold valid passport or any travel document equivalent to passport issued by the Govt. for visiting a foreign country to apply for visa.
Indian Nationals:
Indian nationals do not need a visa. However, effective from October 1, 2000, Indian Nationals traveling to Nepal by air need to have any identity card with the photograph issued by the central or state government of India at the entry point. Temporary identity card with photograph issued by Nepal - based Indian diplomatic missions for the identification of Indian nationals will also be accepted in the case of exceptions. Children under 10 years need not to have any identification.
For Other Nationals: Visa is needed to enter in Nepal to any other nationals except Indian nationals. You can get a visa at the Nepalese Embassy or Consulate or at the Tribhuvan International Airport after you arrival. Children under 10 years don't have to pay any visa fees. Two passport size photos are compulsory for visa application on arrival.
Tourist Visa:
Any foreigner who intends to visit Nepal must have valid passport or any other travel document equivalent to the passport issued by your government for visiting a foreign country to application for visa.
No foreigner is allowed to enter or stay in Nepal without valid visa. Tourist entry visa can be obtained for the following duration from Nepalese Embassy or Consulate or other mission offices or immigration offices situated on entry points in Nepal.
Chinese nationals are informed to apply at the Nepalese Embassy or any other Nepalese diplomatic missions in your country, because there is no provision for the spot visa from Tribhuvan International Airport.
Single Entry visa for 60 days from the date of entry costs US$30 or equivalent
Multiple Entry visa costs US$80 or equivalent (valid for a visa year Jan-Dec 150 days in a visa year).
Shrilankan Pilgrims entering to visit to Lumbini you can obtain a single entry visa for 15 days in US$10 or equivalent convertible currency.
Tourist Visa Extension: Tourist visa can be extended up to 120 days from the Department of Immigration in Kathmandu and Pokhara on your request. Then after an additional 30 days can be extended from Department of Immigration on reasonable grounds, which ensures you departure from the country within 150 days in one visa year. Some Important visa information
1. You only can stay in Nepal up to 150 days in a visa year (Jan - Dec)
2. You must extend your visa before your visa expired.
3. If you don't fulfill with these regulation you are accountable of fine and other prosecution as act and rules of department of immigration.
4. You are not allowed to work here with out working visa.
5. You will not be allowed to carry out any work other than that for which purpose you have obtained visa.
Late fee for regularizing tourist visa
. US$ 2 in equivalent Nepalese currency per day for the first 30 days.
. US$ 3 in equivalent Nepalese currency per day for the next 31 to 90 days.
. US$ 5 in equivalent Nepalese currency per day for more than 90 days.
Transit visa
You can get transit visa from the airport immigration office for the period of 48 hour on the presentation of confirmed air ticket. And it costs you 5 USD or equivalent.
Student visa
If foreign students or researchers want to study or conduct research work in Nepal they may obtain student visa. The following documents are needed to apply for this visa.
1. A recommendation letter from the ministry of education of Nepal.
2. Bank encashment receipt or bank balance equivalent to 3000 USD per year.
3. Six copies of application forms with photographs.
4. A copy of passport including the copy of last Nepalese visa. Bangladesh
It costs 9 USD per month to srilankan, 14USD per month to Bangladeshi students and 40 USD to other nationals.
Residential Visa
Following foreigner and their family who want to stay in Nepal for their rest of life can apply for this visa.
1. Well- known international personalities.
2. Foreigner capable of rendering wonderful contribution to Nepal.
3. Investor who invest minimum of 100 thousand USD at one time in industrial enterprise of Nepal.
4. Foreigner interested to settle in Nepal with out any business.
The following documents are needed to apply:
1. Six copy of application forms of with photograph.
2. Registration certification of industrial enterprise.
3. One copy of passport.
4. One copy of last Nepalese visa.
5. Bank statement with expenses equivalent to 20000USD per year
6. Health certificate (those foreigners who want to settle down here with out doing business.)
7. No objection letter from consulate or embassy of their country.
8. Recommendation from ministry of home of Nepal.
The application with above documents should be submitted on Nepalese Diplomatic mission or embassy abroad.
